Miss Rodeo Texas 2006
Joanna Blackwell
First
runner up to Miss Rodeo America 2007 is Miss Rodeo Texas 2006 – Joanna
Blackwell of Center, TX.
Joanna is a 23 year-old senior at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches,
Texas. Planning to enter the broadcasting industry, Joanna is studying Communications
with an emphasis in radio and television with a minor in Spanish.
Joanna grew up in a small East Texas town, Center, on her family’s small
ranch where they raise American Quarter Horses. She has been involved in the
equine industry for most of her life competing in AQHA shows and youth rodeo
as a young girl. She competed in the National High School Rodeo Association where
she ran barrels, poles, tied goats and rodeo cutting horses. She was the reserve
rookie All-Around Cowgirl and Champion Girl Cutter and a four time state qualifier.
In 2001, Joanna represented the Texas High School Rodeo Association at the National
High School Finals Rodeo in Springfield, Illinois where she was crowned Miss
National High School Rodeo 2001-2002. She also represented the International
Professional Rodeo Association in 2005 as Miss Rodeo USA.
Joanna just recently relinquished her title as Miss Rodeo Texas 2006 in San
Antonio, Texas. She represented the state as Miss Rodeo Texas at the Miss Rodeo
America pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada this past December where she was named first
runner up, winning the photogenic and appearance categories.
Joanna feels that the equine industry and the sport of rodeo have impacted her
life, along with her faith and family, more than anything else. She is honored
to have had the opportunity to play a part in keeping our western heritage alive
and flourishing for many years to come.
